Cisco 2901-SEC-K9 is an enterprise-grade Integrated Services Router (ISR) from the Cisco 2900 Series, designed for secure branch office and enterprise edge deployments. It comes with a Security Bundle (SEC license), enabling advanced security features like firewall, VPN, and encrypted communications—making it ideal for organizations that require reliable and protected networking.
The router features 2 × Gigabit Ethernet ports along with a modular architecture (4 EHWIC slots and DSP slots), allowing flexible expansion for WAN interfaces, voice modules, and additional services. This modular design ensures scalability as network requirements grow.
Built for performance, the Cisco 2901 supports secure data, voice, video, and application services simultaneously. It delivers throughput suitable for branch environments (up to ~75 Mbps with services enabled) and supports advanced routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and MPLS for complex enterprise networks.
Security is a key highlight of the SEC bundle, offering IPsec VPN, firewall protection, intrusion prevention, and advanced QoS features. It also supports technologies like DMVPN, IPv6, CBWFQ, and WRED, ensuring efficient traffic management and secure remote connectivity.
The router includes USB ports, console ports, and auxiliary interfaces for easy management and expansion. Its 1U rack-mountable design makes it suitable for both rack and desktop installations in professional environments.
Although the Cisco 2900 Series is now end-of-life (EOL), it remains widely used in legacy networks and can still provide reliable performance for existing infrastructures.
